The new Art Gallery of Windsor was an opportunity to return this institution to the downtown realm: bringing people to art and art to people - literally from a storefront in a shopping mall back to a prominent urban site on the riverfront. The transformation of the site into the AGW’s first purpose built facility was a bold and significant commitment to culture and history by the City. The design for the Gallery balances views and natural light with the need to create an environmentally controlled and flexible gallery space to accommodate a wide range of historic and contemporary art exhibitions.
